Red Nose Day 24th March 2017 - onesies, pyamas and anything red all for charity.
World Water Day 2017
World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about taking action to tackle the water crisis. Today, 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio.
Year 4 helped raise awarness to this issue. They even tried the water bottle challenge.
World Book Day 2017
Illustrator like Son - World Book Day 2017
We would like to thank Andrew Kingham for talking to Stanford pupils on World Book Day about being an illustrator. The children were really inspired and enjoyed hearing how he takes an idea to a published page. http://www.andrewkingham.co.uk/
Cinderella Rockafella - Year 4 Extravaganza
This week, our fabulous Year 4 children have been performing to parents, carers and the rest of the school as part of our Christmas celebrations.
Their version of Cinderella Rockafella was truly magnificent and performed in the true spirit of pantomine - 'Oh no it wasn't! Oh yes it was!'
I was impressed by the slickness of the show and the magnificent singing and acting skills.
Thank you to our talented Year 4 team - Miss Ross, Miss Steele and Mr Templeman who were wonderful directors.
Thank you also to those people that supported the children by making props, costumes and helping to practise the songs - Mr Richards, Mrs Beazley, Mrs Ford, Mrs Harmer, Mrs Graimes, Ms Gough, Mr Cropp and Mr Sandells.
We look forward to welcoming you all to our Christmas Carol concerts at the Church of the Good Shepherd next week.

Carols at the Brighton Centre
On Monday I attended the Christmas Carol Concert held at the Brighton Centre where a record number of schools participated in an evening of festive song and musical performances.
Our amazing choir, led by Miss Dell, were positioned centre stage, right at the front and I was sat directly opposite them.
It was a joy to watch as they performed and I could not have been prouder.
Thank you to Miss Dell for all the work that she does with the choir and to Mrs Beazley who accompanied the children to their rehearsal during the day and their performance that evening.
We can now look forward to further performances by the choir during our Christmas Carol Services at the Church of the Good Shepherd next week.
Hope to see you there!

Rocksteady at SJS - 22nd November 2016
Today, we were delighted to welcome Rachel Hawker from 'Rock Steady' into school to perform a live music assembly which explored the different sounds and techniques used in a rock band! The children loved hearing Rachel sing some of their favourite songs as she performed, live, right in front of their very eyes. The children were asked to share which part they would like to play in their own rock band.
We will be welcoming 'Rock Steady' back to school in January when each class will have an opportunity to participate in an interactive rock workshop.
The children will then be given an opportunity to sign up for rock band lessons. Keep your eyes peeled for further details.

Did you know that November 21st is World HELLO Day?
World Hello Day was started 43 years ago in 1973. The purpose of the day is simple: to promote peace all over the world and bridge barriers between every nationality.
Taking part could not be easier. All you have to do is say HELLO and give a good greeting to at least 10 people you meet. This can be family, friends and adults in school. Be brave and reach out to people that you do not know very well.
Remember: Stranger Danger. You should not speak to strangers unless you are in a public place and with an adult that you know and trust! KEEP YOURSELF SAFE AT ALL TIMES!

Children in Need

Spots, spots and more spots!
On Friday 18th November, children were asked to share their support for Children in Need by wearing anything spotty in return for a small donation to this incredible cause.

Happy Birthday to Mrs Stingone, Year 5 (pictured), and Mrs Bracey, school office, who both celebrated rather special birthdays this week. The balloons and banners added a splash of cheer to the school. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Anti-Bullying Week

The Power of Good
Mr Robley, Year 5 teacher and PSHE Education co-ordinator, led a whole school assembly to mark anti-bullying week.
The children learned what behaviours could be described as rude, mean and bullying.
Fortunately for us, bullying is very rare at our school.

Remembrance Day, 11th November
A group of our Year 5 and 6 children read poems as part of our Remembrance Day service led by Martin Poole and Emily Cartmell.
It was so lovely to welcome members from our local community into school after the service for tea, biscuits and a chat with children, staff and school governors.
